Barbecue Enthusiasts Have to Wait No More! Wiley’s Championship BBQ Opens in Savannah
SAVANNAH, Georgia (September 6, 2008) – “BBQ Hog Heaven” has a name: WILEY’S CHAMPIONSHIP BBQ in Savannah, Georgia. Beginning September 10th, national BBQ champions Wiley and Janet McCrary will be serving up world-class BBQ in sultry Savannah’s backyard on Whitemarsh Island.

BTS (“Better Than S_ _”) Sauce leads on the menu at the highly anticipated Americana BBQ restaurant. “We waited out hurricane Hanna before making our soft opening announcement. Beginning Wednesday, September 10th opening at 11 AM, we’ll do more of what we do best – serve up championship-quality BBQ,” shares Janet McCrary, who cannot keep the glee hidden. After all, Wiley’s Championship BBQ restaurant is the couple’s dream come true.
Reminiscent of the everybody-knows-your-name Cheers television atmosphere, WILEY’S CHAMPIONSHIP BBQ is a signature showplace of the couple’s obsession for excellent food, friends, conversation, wine and cold beer. The backdrop is museum-caliber BBQ memorabilia, blues music, and WiFi for multi-tasking. Supporting characters include Albert (the unfailing, quiet guy) and cooks Duane and Anthony, who meander in and out of the kitchen. Blues music sets the mood. WiFi is on-site.

Co-champion Janet clarifies her husband’s BBQ passion. “Wiley thinks of himself as a barbecue evangelist spreading the ‘Gospel of BBQ.’” Competing in the by-invitation-only National Barbecue Festival in November 2007, the couple placed first in both pork ribs and beef brisket. Those same techniques, including rubs, spices, sauces and a pool of Wiley’s 500 best recipes will be on the menu at the restaurant and for catering.
Wiley and Janet McCrary, began their BBQ careers catering in Atlanta and meshed their passion for BBQ and love of Savannah to their popular Savannah BBQ catering. They first sought out charities, such as the Blues & BBQ Festival and Savannah Union Mission, as places to put their high-volume capabilities to work, while serving up their champion-tested recipes.
WILEY’S CHAMPIONSHIP BBQ is located in the cozy, easy in/easy out Whitemarsh Island location, only 6 miles EAST from downtown Savannah. The restaurant will be open daily for lunch — Monday through Saturday, “11AM to 3PM or until the BBQ runs out,” says Janet McCrary.
It will be no surprise when neighborhood folks and tourists — especially barbecue enthusiasts — make Wiley’s Championship BBQ their home-away-from-home at lunchtime.
